I just had a very retarded conversation with ATT. My old iPhone which was bought in December of 2007, is fully paid for and out of contract. I upgraded to the 3gs of course, and as a result I now how the 2g sitting around. I want to hand it down to my mom. She is on my plan as another line of service. Her line contract is up in Feb 2010. She is not ending her contract, but yet, she cannot change to an iPhone without data. (she doesnt want to pay $20/month, and I dont blame her, she would rarely use it)

I am handing down my iPhone 2g to my mom. I just tried to activate it for her phone number, which is under a family plan I control. iTunes would not let me deselect the dataplan, told me I was going to be put onto another 2 year contract, and then asked for my Credit Card at which point the little X got clicked and iTunes went bye bye.

This is a USED phone, over 2 years old, a few months out of contract. WTF?

Someone want to explain this to me?
I have a cigarette lighter adapter with a USB socket on it for charging things via USB while driving. (duh).
I have an iPhone 3gs.
Had a 2g.
2g charges in car, 3gs does not.
2g charge on computer USB, 3gs also does.
same cable in all scenarios.

Does the 3g have a magic fucking sensor or something to let it know not to charge?

Same thing with my sound dock.
2g charged 3gs does not.

You cant use the old iPhone as an iPod touch, without a valid ATT simcard in it…

So, everyone who has a left over 2g, cannot use it for anything without jailbreaking it… Seriously???
If you have no SIM card in it, and plug it into iTunes, it complains that its not valid or something like that.
If you put in a SIM card for a different carrier, same thing.

you HAVE TO JAILBREAK it to use it.

If you remember the hokey "hologram" on CNN from election day coverage, you will of course be very hesitant to believe anything from CNN can be actually cool, instead of just stupid. However, I think they may have come up with an idea that could remedy the big fail from that day. They are asking people at the inaguration to send in their photos, and then Photosynth will be used to stitch all the photos together to create a "3d" browseable scene. Photosynth is a Microsoft product that can stitch multiple photos together into a kind of multidimensional, click-here-to-go-here, kind of photo. Neat.

I thought this was pretty funny. This chick has seen a few bits of the movies, and heard about it in conversations apparently, so her boyfriend thought it would be funny to record her summarizing the story.
