Ad supported gadgets in the near future

This would be great. Like minority report. You can get bombarded by ads non-stop. Locationally aware devices using GPS could in theory be free or at least subsidized heavily by displaying ads that are relevant to your location.
I can see it now, you are walking along 42nd st in NYC, and bam your phone notifies you of an ad.
“free 60 peepshow at don’s peepomatic porn palace! Mention code: poorbastard”
or
“Your driving too fast! How about a radar detector from crappyassdriver.com”
Nah that won’t happen. It will just get overwhelmed by all the starbucks and mcdonalds ads…
In essence though, it is a good idea, and I have wondered why this has taken so long to get to production. Selling devices with always on bluetooth, or wifi, to get locational ads and wouldn’t even need GPS. But GPS is obviously better with a cellular SMS system, since you could send waypoint info to a central server and the ads can be centrally managed and distributed. Add to that a little bit of personal profiling and your got an annoyingly accurate ad engine.
