Last night, my wife was out at her monthly board meeting for AIBH so I had Ashley all to my self. Of course, this is both great and terrifying, depending on her mood. Thankfully, Ashley is generally OK when she is with just one of us, and is pretty amenable to any suggestion that involves food or buying stuff, so I did both.
After picking her up from school, we went to go buy her a booster seat at target. Even though she is a tiny 4 year old, I figure it’s time, especially since her friends are all talking about their booster seats, like it’s a freaking right of passage or something. Anyway, she was excited, I wasn’t, it all worked out and she picked a green one. God forbid we pick the pink one. Good Girl!
Then we went for pizza. Normal behavior is climbing all over the place and bugging the hell out of mommy, in between ipad playing. Little to no food is ever consumed, historically, though it does seem to be getting better lately. But last night, an entire piece of pizza was eaten, crust and all, and with no picking off of cheese or toppings!? Plus 3 bread sticks. The hell you say? The hell I DO say! Unfathomable…
She was a princess. Well behaved, only occasional climbing, and even kisses out of the blue.
So now, I think I have realized something. She feels over powered maybe by being out with mommy and me and when she has us alone, she doesn’t need to act up to get attention. Not that she does anyway, but her perception is obviously that way. Kind of like when a kid says “you never let me do anything” right after you just let them do almost anything. She feels she can never get a word in edgewise, even though she is responsible for easily 90% of the words.
So mommy and I are now going to have date night with Ashley, trading off every other week. Next week is mommy’s turn and hopefully will help fix some of the mommy daughter issues that have been starting to build up.
