Nanotechnology is immoral? Religionuts gone wild…

March 11, 2008 by: dave
In a sample of 1,015 adult Americans, only 29.5 percent of respondents agreed that nanotechnology was morally acceptable. Errrr WhAATt?!?$!@ Is America honestly becoming that retardedly stupid?! Seriously, is this just some kind of crazy ass misunderstanding, or did they just ask a bunch of bumpkins with no education or even tv? In European surveys that posed identical questions about nanotechnology to people in the United Kingdom and continental Europe, significantly higher percentages of people accepted the moral validity of the technology. In the United Kingdom, 54.1 percent found nanotechnology to be morally acceptable. In Germany, 62.7 percent had no moral qualms about nanotechnology, and in France 72.1 percent of survey respondents saw no problems with the technology. This actually makes my brain hurt. What could possibly be immoral about nanotech? Do these people think they were asking about genetic engineering or biotech? That I can understand, though I think those detractors are idiots as well, but at least I can understand, and even allow for the arguments why. But nanotech... You dopey ass people that answered that question, please sit down and listen to me for a second... YOUR COMPUTER USES NANOTECH, PLEASE LEAVE THE INTERNETS NOW. K THX BYE. So do your anti-stain Dockers. So do your sunglasses most likely. So does your sunscreen. So does almost everything you use now, have at least some component that is nanotech. God, could you please stop allowing your followers to be so tremendously stupid? It's kinda making you look bad sometimes, you know? Read: Science Daily

Platonic Fireplaces - Contemporary electric fires and modern fireplaces.

March 11, 2008 by: dave
led fireplace Maybe this is a little cheesy or geeky, but i kinda like this. I wonder how hard it would be to make one myself. basically a shadowbox picture, but with LEDs inside that change colors to create an aurora or fire effect.
Suitable for domestic and commercial applications, Electroscape is available in two landscape versions. The fireplace utilises cutting edge LED circuits with single and multiple colour options. These can be controlled and mixed using a remote control handset. An optional 2kw heater is available as part of the design, or as a separate element.

Peeing in clown’s mouth urinal in Japan

March 11, 2008 by: dave
Can i get a collective WTF? The Japanese are weird, that's it, no two ways about it. A urinal that moves up and down, while you pee in it, and looks like a giant clown head guzzling your golden waters. I can honestly say that video made me pause for a moment. Can you imagine someone who is has a fear of clowns, having to pee. LOL. Ironically, viaLiveLeak.com

Prince Rupert’s Drop - cool

March 11, 2008 by: dave
A "Prince Rupert's Drop" is what forms when you drop a dollop of molten glass into a bucket of water. Supposedly the surface of the drop under great compression, and the interior is under great tension. You can squeeze the bulbous part of the drop with pliers or pound on it with a hammer but it wont break. However, if you snap off thethin tail at the end of the drop, it'll shatter into dust. woah...

School Bans Hugs Over 2 Seconds - Mesa,AZ

March 06, 2008 by: dave
Hugging is evil WTF? I live in a messed up state apparently. A Shepherd Junior High School in Mesa Arizona has banned hugs that last more than 2 seconds and is handing out detentions for violations. So, the students are protested by having a Hug-A-Thon. Yeay young people! Chelsea Branham, a 14-year-old student at the school got detention this week for hugging her friend after school. She and her classmates held a public hug-a-thon last friday. The "no-hugging" rule had previously been in the student handbook. After many students began expressing concern about public hugging and kissing in the hallways, the school began reinforcing the rules. Prior to the demonstration, the district said the principal and students brokered an agreement to clarify the "no-hugging" rule. According to the guidelines, small hugs, less than two seconds, are permitted but longer ones and kissing are not. I agree that there should be some ground rules, since it's school, not a sex party, but come on, 2 seconds. No kissing, I understand, and agree with, but 2 second hugs. That just seems a bit too short. On top of that, I would assume you would need a stopwatch to enforce it. Time is relative, and difficult to determine accurately without a watch. Short time frames are no different. The reason is good, but the execution is flawed. Via KPHO Phoenix
