Corn, which is used as the primary source for ethanol production is becoming a resource, instead of its original standing as a commodity. It has actually started to affect regions such as mexico, where tortilla prices have jumped 50% because mexico is exporting its corn to ethanol production. In the US livestock prices are expected to begin increasing because of the increasing cost of corn, which is what the cows, pigs, and chickens are fed. From what I have read, even some farmed fish are fed corn. The trickle down effect of such a seemingly fantastic decision of "hey lets power cars with corn" is starting to become concerning.
Obviously corn can't be the only resource for ethanol, and it won't, but what amount of damage is being done by such a firm push to encourage ethanol usage. Certainly the world won't collapse, but can this result in a backlash? I can see some jackass marketing exec for the oil industry coming up with a brilliant plan to get people to swing back to oil.
Eat corn - Drive Oil!
Dollar doesn't go as far as it used to? Your steak and chicken costing more at the checkout? Don't fret! Driving a car that runs of good old fashioned fossil fuels will put more money in your pocket at the grocery. Jimmy doesn't have to eat tough meat anymore!
Btw, if a marketing exec uses that, I want $100k per medium used in. or a flat $1million for a blanket fee.
Now i'm gonna go eat my cornless tortilla, and chewy beef taco.
