Ugh. iPhone 2.0 make me no happy now. It seems I cannot play the audiobook m4a files I created myself. No DRM, yet they won't play. It seems alot of folks are having the problem, but apple is sweeping it under the rug. Though I did find one claim that they escalated it to engineering for investigation. Anyone figure out a way to make these broken audiobooks go?

I had the same problem. Did the update to 2.0.2 on 9/1/08 and it would play the .m4a files. I did the update to 2.1 today 9/13 and the problem is resolved. Apple was going to replace the phone under warranty, but I didn’t want to go through the hassle. Give it a shot. One also advantage to 2.1 is the sync is about 25% the time. It synced a 9 hr audio book in under a minute!

Holy crap! They fixed it! Woot!
Thanks Leonard for letting me know. I probably would have not checked for a while since I had just tried again a few days ago. awesome. So anyone else having the audiobook problem. Updating to 2.1 will fix it, so it seems.
