At first this was kinda funny, and frankly Paolo Pedercini has some serious balls to poke the bear that is McDonalds with such a big pointy stick. The game is obviously a political jab at how McDonalds must apparently bend a lot of rules to be the powerhouse of fast food that it has become. Whether the implications are true or not, its funny.
However... If you are going to get all preachy, get your fucking facts right.
I applaud the effort, and applaud the humor, but again, here we go with people just spouting off their beliefs and opinions, as if they are fact, and not making sure they are right. Don't go spouting rhetoric and provide the wrong info, it devalues your entire message, even though the rest of it may be correct, the errors are what make you look like a nut.
Case in point:
This is what pops up when you click on the question mark over the ocean in the agriculture map.
Scientists say if we destroy too many rainforests, we cause ozone depletion. Ozone depletion causes global warming and melts polar ice caps.Errrrrr, what? The Ozone hole does not cause global warming. The ozone hole may be a RESULT of global warming, but mostly the ozone hole is caused, theoretically, by man made issues. Cutting down rainforests has zero to do with the ozone layer. Rain forests dying all by themselves might have to do with the hole, but not the other way around. The Stratospheric Ozone Layer is what protects the surface of the Earth from overexposure to some of the harmful radiation of the sun, particularly UV light. Now where the confusion may have come in is because the ozone layer and global warming are suspected to be connected, but only 1 way. The ozone layer may be depleting because of the increase in global temperatures, which causes the ozone layer to become slower at regenerating. You could argue that its a minor point, but you know what, when you ask a TV personality if the Earth is flat, and they don't know the answer, there is a serious problem with knowledge and education. Ignorance does not make the Earth whatever shape you want, it's round by the way, and ignorance or misrepresentation will not make your point any more clearly. I'm actually wondering if he watched the horrible SciFi channel movie, Solar Attack, when he made this. If so, I hope people start to learn their lessons that SciFi movies are not SCIENCE, they are FICTION and as such, everything you see in them is FICTION. Even if they get it right, they usually get it only kind of right. Although I get all worked up and rant about some seemingly minuscule text of the game, I do not miss the point of the message. Fast food industries do not just poison you directly with the food they serve, but they poison the world around you. Yea, yea, I get your point. I don't agree with all of it. I think the future is Genetic Modification, not just of crops, but of everything. I think this planet cannot produce enough food to support its population without reprogramming some things. GM crops will allow countries with ridiculous population sizes (china and india to name 2) to keep being ridiculous. Good luck getting those countries to change their ways. Do there need to be controls, of course. Do some of the Fast Food industry practices give me the creeps, of course. The game does point out the problems, but it may just be a bit tooooo over the top to actually get the point across. Plus its fun... LOL via Boing Boing
