President and Oil prices - waddadick

April 29, 2008 by: dave

I was watching the presidential press conference this morning (no idea why) and he was blabbering on and on about gas prices and blaming congress to set up for a November Democrat hate-a-thon. In his comments he complained that gas prices are high because of the lack of supply. So of course, being the oil baron that he is, he has for many years now, been pushing to congress to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Thats great, we could pull between 4.3 billion and 16 billion barrels (depending on which politician-math you use) of oil out of the ground, right? And oil prices would go down, right? WRONG.

Even if the legislation was passed today, it would take at least a year before the oil facilities started to be built, if not 2 or 3 years. And then a few more to actually get to drilling and pumping it out. It takes a long time to plan and build for drilling at a scale that large.

Not only that, but in the next 'segment' of his rant, he said that prices are up because we can't refine enough oil fast enough. We are maxed out in refining capacity. Oh really? THEN WHAT GOOD WILL THE EXTRA OIL DO? whaddadick.

The 2 faced schizophrenic blame fest is ridiculous. Oil prices are up because the dollar is a total piece of shit right now. The dollar is a total piece of shit because the housing boom over-extended the value of the dollar, and caused banks to sell their first born children to get business. Add to that the war cost and the almost $10 trillion debt that we are carrying, as well as the $1.2 billion a day that debt is increasing, and you realize that no one would want our money. Why?

Because we don't actually have any money. Our money is now worth less because for every dollar you have in your wallet, some of it is owed to some other country or some rich guy in the US. I have no idea what the devaluation is, but i'm guessing its about 50% since the Euro was equal a year ago to the dollar and is now worth twice as much. But i digress.

The main point was that Bush is so eager to start drilling for oil in ANWR that he didn't even pay attention to his own speech. Even if we had more oil, we can't make any more gas. And it certainly won't help today, since it takes time to drill, and even more time to build a refinery. Of course something needs to be done, and it's unfortunate that gas is so expensive, since it does tend to be a poor-tax, but today, nothing will change.

The damage will be done, and hopefully, change will take place and move us into the renewable energy era. Otherwise, there is of course my magic free energy device I have been working on. It uses ignorance and forceful statements to make an infinite supply of any type of energy I need.
